We woke up and made the less-than-an-hour drive to Acadia National Park.
(Our pass from last year was still good for four more days.)
First we stopped at the sandbar on Bar Harbor Island to explore the tide pools.
(Next time we'll wear our water shoes--we had them with us but wore flip flops instead. They kept being sucked off by the mud. :)
After lunch (salad with a side of blueberry pie for me), we went into Acadia.
(He was sketching the views.)
We stopped to explore the rocks near Otter Cliff.
We stopped to check out the cobbled stones at Little Hunters Beach.
Then we drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped to pick a few wild blueberries and huckleberries.
We took a little swim.
Then we took the shuttle downtown to Geddy's for dinner.
We let them each pick out a Maine-inspired stuffed animal. (M-Harbor the seal, T-Crabby the lobster, B-Moose the moose.)
And we grabbed some whoopie-pies to sample. (They were good, but maybe not home-state PA-good. ;) )
While we were waiting for the shuttle, the lobster provided some much-needed comic relief. (Because parenting never stops and laughter really can be the best medicine.) When asked why he chose a lobster, T said that he already had a lobster personality picked out--his lobster was quite grumpy and distrustful of humans. In this picture I think he was trying to run away and T was grabbing him.
Before turning in for the night they stopped to color a picture in the hotel lobby. Then while they went to sleep we did a load of laundry. :)
It was such a beautiful day! I think that the blue of Maine might be my favorite shade of blue.
