Repeats, Clichés and Love (Five for the Week)

1.  On repeat?  The weather.  Brutally cold.  And snowy.

We're trying to absorb some Vitamin D when we can. :)

2.  Also--cupcakes.

And my personal favorite: Greek Yogurt Cupcakes with Blackberry Frosting.  (The icing is perfection--lightly fruity and just the right amount of sweet.  Dreamy.)

3.  Oh, and due to the weather mostly keeping us inside, there has a been a lot of art.  (Watercolored coffee filters on cardboard inspired by THIS.)
With a side of major (makes me laugh) cliché.  We painted while listening to Shakespeare.  (Naturally.)  I was searching for something Valentine-ish and came across Shakespeare for Children - A Midsummer Night's Dream and the Taming of the Shrew.  (They particularly liked the Taming of the Shrew. ;)

4.  Meet George.  Our Valentine's Day fish à la Henry Huggins and his guppies.  George is loved.

5.  Our Valentine's Day also wrapped up with more notes from M on our mirrors and our mailbox stuffed with notes.  (She is the best letter-writer.)  They got a few treats from us--a box of chocolates, a small stuffed animal and a classical music CD (like Vivaldi for Valentines.) (Umm...perhaps that's also quite cliché...).

We also finished Raggedy Ann Stories.  I asked my Mom what her favorite book was when she was little and she said that she remembers loving the Raggedy Ann books from the library.  (It was written in 1918!)  And who knew?  Raggedy Ann has a candy heart inside of her--perfect timing.

This week is much the same--minus the Shakespeare and with an added birthday--we'll have a brand new seven-year-old tomorrow. :)

Five (or More) for the Week (or Two)

Lately there's been a bit of snow.  Sometimes a lot and sometimes just a little.
(Total from this past Monday's storm.  There were 2 snow days and one 2hr. delay this week for school.)

When it isn't snowing, the sky has been stunning.
(Sunrises, left; Sunsets, right.)
(Jupiter and the moon on Tuesday night.)

And the birds have been quite fun to watch, too.

Inside, we've been lighting candles often.

And working on art.
 T: Inspired by THIS.

M and T actually started taking a weekly art class.
(M, left; T, right.)

Since it's February, we broke out the Valentine's mailboxes.  They've been stuffed full of notes almost every day.  (From them--not me.;)

And these notes have been popping up all over.

We've also been reading.  (Over the past two weeks we've read The Little Prince, 39 Clues:The Maze of Bones, and William Booth.)  And on Friday we went to the movies to see Paddington Bear.  Sadly, we also just finished that book and we really did not care for the movie version.  (At all.)

We all had fun catching up with friends for dinner a week ago.

And yesterday we woke up bright and early (5am) for a ski day.

That's a bit of what we've been up to around here.
