When someone I know and love was very little (hint: blond hair, brown eyes, she's turning 9 next week), she used to cry and cry when she watched Winnie-the-Pooh cartoons. She was horrified when he got stuck in Rabbit's hole. Needless to say, Pooh Bear has not been a favorite around here.
Until three days ago.
On Monday night we started reading The Complete Tales of Winnie-the-Pooh. And they fell in love with him. Really, it is so sweet and so funny. Beza (who's joining us for this bigger book), doesn't quite get the humor yet, but the older ones were doubled over last night as we read about how Piglet, on his way to give Eeyore a birthday balloon, fell on and popped the balloon. Piglet thought at first that the whole world blew up, then maybe just The Forest, then maybe just him and maybe he landed on the moon. Then he realized that he could pick up his head (from falling) to look around the moon and he realized that he was still in The Forest. They thought it was the funniest thing ever.
And so we find ourselves fans after all.
(Also, this week just happens to mark the Anniversary of the first publishing of Winnie-the-Pooh.)
