One of my most favorite parts of the day is right after J brushes (and flosses) everyone's teeth and then they all climb onto my bed to listen to the story we're reading. We've been reading "big" books at night for years, but Beza has just joined us this past month. (J had been reading to her in her bed.)
We started with Anne of Green Gables way back when T was just 3 (and M was 5). The two of them are expert book listeners. We just started a new series (The Borrowers), and since Bez is well into her 3's it seemed like a good time to have her join us. The transition has been a bit bumpy. It's required a lot of patience and letting go of expectations. But, it's getting better!
We're learning to keep our fingers (or toes) from inch, inch, inching across the bed to touch someone else. To not talk when someone else is talking. And to not put on a show in the mirror. (The pillows help. :)
But, we're also learning that it feels really good to all be a part of the story together.
(And that if you stick with it consistently, the hard stuff will get easier.)
